Why is is called "Baiersbronn"?
First mentioned in the 13th century. In a deed of donation dated 12 May 1292, the farms were named "Strubenhardt", "Tabechenhalde" and "Baiersbrunne".
Baiersbronn was built in the High Middle Ages in the forest of Dornstetten, still in the possession of the Dukes of Zähringen. The locators were probablyf rom “Baiern” (personal name). The nearby monastery of Reichenbach earned its merits for the reclamation of this area after 1085. Among the remaining place names appear in his oldest land register, namely Doumbach (Thonbach) and Eigenberc (Eichberg).
At the first mention, the area was already be inherited to the Counts of Fürstenberg. Counts Friedrich and Konrad of Fürstenberg sold their estates in"Baiersbrunne, Tabechenhalde and Strubenhart" to the abbey of Kniebis on 25th of May 1292. Those places do not exist anymore.
In 1320, Baiersbronn with Dornstetten and the monastery of Reichenbach were passed to the Counts of Württemberg. The borderline with Baden is also evident in the dialects.
Several dialect areas meet in the Murgtal. The old boundary that follows downstream between Baiersbronn-Schönmünzach and Forbach-Kirschbaumwasen is identical to the dialect boundary with the Upper Rhine-Alemannic, which still dominates the lower part of the Murg valley.

Do you know the "Buhlbacher Schlegel"?
The Buhlbach Schlegel, an export hit, symbolizes how the champagne bottle was discovered. The worldwide success of Buhlbach lies in the development of the pressure-resistant champagne bottle.
In the 18/19th century, Baiersbronn-Buhlbach was the largest glassworks in the Black Forest. Here the champagne bottle was revolutionized, but until now there were problems with the shape again and again. The owners of the glassworks Johann Georg Böhringer and Franz K. Klumpp enlarged the surface area of thebottle bottom, which was previously unique. The bottle became more stable and the pressure spread because of a curvature. This was the birth of the so-called “Buhlbacher Schlegel”.
An absolute success story for the region of the Black Forest. At times, up to 2 million bottles of champagne could be produced per year.

Christleshof - one of the first courts in Baiersbronn
“We have a little dill in every wall. ” Master craftsman Ernst Schleh says about the restored Christleshof, one of the first courts of Baiersbronn.
Der Holzbau hat in den letzten Jahren eine Renaissance erlebt: Holzbaukultur der besonderen Art.
In the Northern Black Forest, wood is a central, historically grown natural material as well as an ever-growing resource. Find here a timber construction culture of a special kind.
This includes the restoration of a historical monument: the CHRISTLESHOF project by the owner Ernst Schleh, who not only understands his craft but also fills it with passion. He was Certified Restorer, Deputy Chief of the "Zimmerer Innung" in Freudenstadt, Certified Building Energy Consultant and Certified Expert “Bekämpfender Holzschutz”.
His carpenter's shop is located in one of the most forested communities in Germany – in Baiersbronn in the Black Forest. It presents itself in an original and innovative way on its own website. When Ernst Schleh bought the farm, it looked more like a ruin, which he wanted to restore. As one of the first courts in Baiersbronn with the oldest parts from 1559, nothing was allowed to change. As a secret ingredient in the restoration, he used dill, which provides a special surface structure.
It needed 20 years and the 500-year-old farmhouse has become a jewel. In a video you can experience the project and hear its owner:
